SPOCOM 2012

Just by coincidence, SPOCOM happened to be on the same weekend that I stopped over in Hawaii. Usually Street Car Industries held its events at the end of August, right before school starts up. It has always been the main car show that all of the local import automotive enthusiasts geared up for throughout the year. The event took on many different names and forms, from the original ‘Street Car Showoff’ series, to ‘NEOSTREET’, to ‘Streetcar Supreme’, then finally to the ‘SPOCOM’ series. No matter what the name is, this show IS Hawaii’s elite car show. I always look forward to see how the scene progressed throughout the years and how trends come and go. It was good to see a large showing in the Honda scene at the show. Since Hawaii Raceway Park closed down over 6 years ago, a lot of old school Honda guys switched over to luxury cars and never looked back. There were always a few crews who always stayed loyal to their roots and I’m glad to see the community remain strong.

This show definitely had a lot of new cars I haven’t seen before. I feel like I’m getting old seeing all these new kids in the scene with their crazy builds. However, it’s good to see the transition to the next generation of car enthusiasts and how they’ve adapted to the scene in Hawaii. There were a bunch of cars that caught my eye, including the TSX posted above. Most cars at the show had their fitment on point.

Gil’s EK sedan from Team Ultraspeed was definitely something to see. Everything in his car was JDM’d out (including the heat insulation pad underneath the hood in the picture above) and his new set of Mugen M7’s with custom barrels were just amazing to see in person.

This Element from JS4KIX also caught my eye. I’ve seen this car before on the internet somewhere, but never had the chance to see it in person. It’s good to see one of these built up with crazy wheel fitment, it makes xB’s look like crap.

Lance Harano also brought his A-game with a brand new build. It’s always refreshing to see his rides at shows. I’m sure you’ll see a lot more coverage for this car soon as it was definitely a crowd pleaser, not to mention, it took Best in Show. Everything in this car is immaculate, especially his aggressive set of SSR Longchamps.

It was great catching up with everyone during the show. Hopefully I’ll be back again soon to take more coverage of the scene in Hawaii. Enjoy the rest of the shots.
